First Grade
First grade is a very important and challenging year in the life of your child. It will lay the foundation for all future reading, writing and math skills. For this reason, reading is the priority in all first grade classes here at William Mason Cooper Magnet School for Technology Star Achievers Academy. Our Students are immersed in a print-rich environment to develop oral language skills, phonetics, vocabulary and comprehension skills.
We offer challenging and enriching activities for all students. Technology is used to enhance learning in the classroom and in the technology lab. A variety of other mediums are used to complement our literacy program and curriculum: Design Technology, hands-on learning, and real world experiences through field trips.
Our philosophy is “Reach all - Teach all.” Together, with your help and support, we can help ALL first grade students become avid readers with a strong emphasis on reading, writing and communications skills. Please stop by and see active learning in progress.
Most of all, please remember first graders need a lot of support and encouragement from the most important people in their lives—their parents!
